Last Wild Alaskan Wolf

This piece was inspired by my love for wolves, both spiritually as well as visually. A truly amazing creature, much like us, the wolf survives best in groups. Resilient as they can be, they are not invincible. This piece is a thought experiment of a lone wolf, the last of his kind, living out his days in the shadows of Denali, lit during the long winter nights by the occasional neon green of the Aurora.
Though set in the future from our perspective, the wolf knows no time other than the four seasons and what they mean for foraging or hunting his meal. A wolf, more than most creatures, needs a pristine ecosystem free from fences and constraints. As resources on our planet become more needed for expansion of our ever-growing population, so shrinks the population of wolves who require vast expanses of unmolested wilderness to thrive in tandem with creatures that make up their diet. For thousands of years, Alaska has supported many beautiful and amazing flora and fauna, it is up to us to exhibit self-control on exploiting Alaska’s seemingly endless land and resources.
Alaska, big as it is, is not infinite, and the wolf is not exempt from future extinction without our restraint.
